Dear Readers,
I'm beyond thrilled to welcome you to the fifth issue of The Lunar Journal: MOSAIC.
What does it mean to exist in the in-between? As humans, we're often drawn to naming ourselves, fitting into conveniently boxed-in categories that dictate exactly what we are, how we interact with the world, and where we intend to be in the future. To give somebody a name is to give them power. It allows them to fit seamlessly with those who have existed before them. Personality quizzes, zodiac signs, and IQ tests are all built upon demarcations of the self.
With a name comes a pre-existent bias. An attempt to fit new pieces of information into our existing systems. And as such, it takes a sort of bravery to tread beyond these well-worn paths. MOSAIC is a celebration of all that is new. It aims to extend a fresh, revitalizing perspective of written works, from Ananya Kharat's erasure poem to Winniefred Sharp's reinvention of the traditional playing card.
As always, a thousand thank yous to our beloved contributors, submitters, and editors for bringing this issue to life! Although this issue is smaller than our previous ones, we cannot understate the amount of hard work and determination that went into each piece. The stories within ISSUE V are tender, daring, and full of life. We hope you enjoy <3
With love,
