Dear Readers,
When I first started The Lunar Journal, I wanted to create a space where writers of all ages and backgrounds could send in their work without fear of prejudice or judgment. As humans, sharing ideas through our writing is intrinsic to the very basis of society. It allows us to consider ideas that we never would have thought of ourselves, and to find solidarity among people from all across the world. With the additional challenges that the pandemic has imposed upon us over the past two years, it has become more important than ever to share our writing with others.
In the first issue of The Lunar Journal, you will find prose that weaves together both romance and the supernatural, from Cece Lu's "Baseline Zero" to Manu Zolezzi's "Mayday". Personal identity and relationships are skillfully tackled through MJ Gomez's "Self-Portrait as Empty Mirror" and Aliza Haskal's "On Water". Regardless of theme, the 20 works in this issue each offer a unique interpretation of the word Serendipity that I hope inspires you in your own creative endeavors.
Thank you to all of the talented submitters who bravely put their work out into the world, as well as the staff who made this issue possible. It has been an absolute honor working with such a dedicated team of artists and writers over these past couple of months.
We hope you enjoy The Lunar Journal's inaugural issue: Serendipity.
Warmest regards,
